41 payer exec moves in August

From Cigna's first chief health officer to restructuring at Humana, these are 41 payer executive moves reported since Aug. 1:

  1. Blue Shield of California named Sandra Clarke as COO and Mike Stuart as CFO, effective Oct. 10.

  1. Hometown Health said Aug. 31 that CEO David Hansen is retiring in October and will be replaced by Bethany Sexton, effective Sept. 12.

  1. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts named Sarah Iselin CEO Aug. 30. Ms. Iselin will begin with the company Dec. 5 before assuming her new role Jan. 1.

  1. Cigna named David Brailer, MD, PhD, as executive vice president and its first chief health officer Aug. 30.

  1. Providence Health Plan named Michael Mathias as its CIO Aug. 30.

  1. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield named Gary Boyd as vice president of information systems, Arkansas Business reported Aug. 30.

  1. Solis Health Plans, a Medicare Advantage carrier, named Efrain Duarte as CEO, Michael Lynch as COO and former CEO Daniel Hernandez was named executive chair of the board Aug. 30.

  1. Ontrak, a behavioral health platform, appointed former Premera Blue Cross COO James Messina as a non-executive director to its board Aug. 30.

  1. SelectQuote, an insurance broker, named former Bright HealthCare CEO Simeon Schindelman as senior executive healthcare adviser Aug. 25.

  1. Regence BlueShield named Nicole Saint Clair as its executive medical director Aug. 25.

  1. The National Committee for Quality Assurance appointed Bryan Buckley, DrPH, as director of health quality initiatives Aug. 23.

  1. GeoBlue appointed Simon Jackson to serve as chief growth officer Aug. 23. 

  1. UCare named Tenbit Emiru, MD, PhD, as executive vice president and chief medical officer Aug. 22.

  1. Health Alliance Medical Plans named its COO, Sinead Rice Madigan, as president and CEO Aug. 17.

  2. Regence BlueShield of Idaho named Adrean Cavener as director of public affairs and government relations Aug. 17.

  1. Sentara Health Plans named Colin Drozdowski president Aug 17. Former President and CEO Dennis Matheis will become president and CEO of Sentara Healthcare.

  1. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts named Karl Laskowski, MD, vice president and medical director of clinical programs and strategy Aug. 16.

  1. CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield named Lester Davis as vice president and chief of staff Aug. 16, a role that will serve "as an extension of the Office of the CEO."

  2. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina named Kelly Calabria as senior vice president, chief marketing and corporate social responsibility officer, effective Aug. 15.

  1. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island named Talia Brookshire as its first chief diversity officer Aug. 11.

  1. Agilon Health appointed former Centene executive Jeff Schwaneke to its board of directors Aug. 10.

  1. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee named Tal Cohen as its first director of provider data Aug. 8.

  1. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota appointed Jasmine Jirele and Jim Pekarek to its board of trustees Aug. 8.

  1. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association named John Banta as vice president, national employee benefits administration and Blue Venture Fund Aug. 8.

  1. Magellan Health appointed former Centene vice president Tom Britt to serve as its new CIO Aug. 8.

  1. Clover Health said Aug. 8 that President Andrew Toy will take over as CEO Jan. 1 as founder Vivek Garipalli moves from the position. Mr. Garipalli will remain with the company as executive chair.

  1. Humana chief medical officer, William Shrank, left the company on Aug. 5 after three and a half years.

  1. Humana promoted George Renaudin to president of Medicare, effective Aug. 5.

  1. Centivo, a self-funded health plan provider, named Tara Johnson as its first general counsel Aug. 3. 

  1. OpenMedicare, a Medicare Advantage platform, named Anthony Kavouras as CEO Aug. 2.

  1. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield promoted Elaina Nix to director of operations at Medicare Advantage, Arkansas Business reported Aug. 2.

  1. Ochsner Health Plan named Senior Vice President and Executive Adviser Jeffrey Fernandez as CEO, effective Aug. 1.

  1. Centene board chair James Dallas said Aug 1. he will step down from his role before the company's 2023 stockholder meeting. Mr. Dallas intends to stay on as a company director and run for the position again next year.

  1. Agilon Health appointed Denise Zamore as the company's first chief legal officer and secretary to its board of directors, effective Aug. 1.

  1. Humana senior vice president, chief accounting officer and controller, Michael Koeberlein, retired Aug. 1. He will be succeeded by John-Paul Felter.

  1. Medical Mutual of Ohio named Steven Glass president and CEO, effective Aug. 1.
