Clover Health names next CEO as founder transitions out of role

Clover Health President Andrew Toy will assume the role of CEO starting Jan. 1 as founder Vivek Garipalli moves from the position.

Mr. Garipalli will remain with the company as executive chairperson for the Franklin, Tenn.-based insurtech company, according to an Aug. 8 Clover Health news release.

Mr. Toy joined Clover Health in 2018, according to the news release. He has served on Clover's board of directors since 2018 and became president in 2019. He joined the company from Google, where he coordinated enterprise activities for the Android team and machine learning, enterprise search and analytics for the G-Suite team. He was previously the CEO and co-founder of Divide, a company that focused on creating a split between work and personal data on mobile devices. The company was acquired by Google in 2014.

"I've always believed the right long-term leader for Clover will have a technology-first mindset," Mr. Garipalli said in the news release. "Andrew is a unique technologist and business strategist. He’s a true founder in every sense of the word — having built companies from scratch, he has an abundance of grit needed to solve the hardest problems in healthcare."
