Cigna has named David Brailer, MD, PhD, as executive vice president and its first chief health officer, starting in early September.
Dr. Brailer will focus on collaboration between the company's products, technologies and services to drive value and improve members' health. He will serve on the company's enterprise leadership team and report directly to CEO David Cordani, according to an Aug. 30 news release.
Dr. Brailer founded and is chair of Health Evolution, a healthcare executive networking group, and is vice chair of the Duke-Margolis Health Policy Center in Washington, D.C.
He was appointed by former President George W. Bush as a health policy advisor in 2004 and was the nation's first national coordinator for health information technology. Dr. Brailer also founded and was CEO of CareScience, a health data analytics company.
