14 payer exec moves in April

From health tech startups tapping former payer execs to a resignation from a board of directors, these are 14 payer executive moves in the month of April:

  1. TCARE named former Centene Chief Solutions Officer Nate Moore as the company's chief operating officer April 27.

  2. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina appointed Willie Deese as the newest addition to its board of trustees April 27.

  3. Centene updated the office of its CEO April 26 to include President and COO Brent Layton, CFO Drew Asher, Chief Transformation Officer Jim Murray and Magellan Health CEO Ken Fasola. 

  4. Molina Healthcare of Iowa named Tim Gutshall, MD, chief medical officer April 25.

  5. BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee named Rose Lee as vice president and chief information security officer April 21.

  6. BCBS Minnesota named four new executives April 19: Mark Steffen, MD, has been promoted to senior vice president of medical management and chief medical officer. Julie Loosbrock has joined Blue Cross as senior vice president and chief human resources officer. May Vang has returned to Blue Cross to serve as vice president of treasury and chief investment officer. Alicia Reuter has been promoted to vice president of legal, general counsel and assistant secretary within the legal department.

  7. Better Health appointed Robert Mirsky, MD, to the company's board of advisers April 19

  8. The Alliance of Community Health Plans tapped Jennifer Lee, MD, as chief medical officer April 19.

  9. Centene board member Leslie Norwalk resigned from the board of directors April 15. In an April 11 letter, Ms. Norwalk said the process surrounding a recent important decision fell egregiously short of what she and other board members considered appropriate to make an informed decision. She joined the board in January.

  10. Oscar Health COO Meghan Joyce resigned April 10. She was also executive vice president of the +Oscar platform.

  11. Meridian Michigan appointed Kay Judge, MD, as its new chief medical officer April 10. 

  12. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Association named Erin Barney as vice president of network solutions April 8.

  13. Cigna's 19-year chief human resources officer and chief administrative officer, John Murabito, retired April 1. Mr. Murabito was replaced by Cynthia Ryan, former senior vice president and human resources officer.

  14. Regence BlueShield added three new sales leadership roles, effective April 1: Stacy Crim was named vice president of small business for sales and account management. Jae Suzuki is now vice president of large group for sales and account management. Peter McClung will continue to serve as vice president of sales with a primary focus on self-funded groups and national account strategies.
