BCBS North Carolina appoints new member to board of trustees

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina named Willie Deese as the newest addition to its board of trustees.

Mr. Deese led a 40-year career in the pharmaceutical and computer industries before retiring in 2016. He most recently served as executive vice president of manufacturing at Merck, according to an April 27 press release.

He currently serves as a board member for Dentsply Sirona, CDK Global, Public Service Enterprise Group and G1 Therapeutics. Mr. Deese has also served on the audit committee for each company. In 2022, Mr. Deese was appointed to President Joe Biden's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

He is recognized for his expertise in manufacturing and supply chain management, as well as his insights in culture management, including environmental and sustainability practices; diversity, equity and inclusion policies; and leadership development.

"Willie's local North Carolina roots combined with his history of global operational excellence brings a unique perspective to our company," said BCBSNC board of trustees Chair Ned Curran. "As we continue to sharpen our focus on improving health outcomes for all, Deese's demonstrated leadership and impressive skill set will be of tremendous value for our customers and communities."
