16 payer exec moves in December

From several new CEOs to a C-suite reshuffle at Centene, these are 16 recent payer executive moves reported by Becker's since Dec. 1:

  • UnitedHealthcare named David Milich as CEO of employer and individual operations in its 15-state central region, according to a Dec. 27 LinkedIn post.

  • BCBS Minnesota promoted Bukata Hayes to vice president and chief equity officer Dec. 21.

  • BCBS Rhode Island named Anastasia Bergmann as vice president and chief people officer Dec. 16.  

  • Centene promoted Ken Fasola to president and Jim Murray to chief operating officer Dec. 14 as current president and COO Brent Layton plans to retire. Dave Thomas, currently executive vice president of markets, has been promoted to CEO of markets and Medicaid. The payer also named Alice Chen, MD, as chief medical officer, effective Jan. 1, and Brian LeClaire, PhD, as chief information officer, effective Dec. 5.

  • Health Share of Oregon CEO James Schroeder was appointed interim director of the state's Health Authority, Oregon Capital Chronicle reported Dec. 13.

  • UnitedHealth Group appointed Kristen Gil, vice president and business finance officer at Google parent company Alphabet, to its board of directors Dec. 12.

  • Providence Health Plan promoted two employees to market president Dec. 8: Scott Burton to lead commercial and Shannon Drotning to lead consumer and specialty.

  • BCBS Kansas City named UnitedHealth Group's former chief information officer of benefits operations, Todd Dunivant, as senior vice president and COO Dec. 7.

  • Oscar Health appointed Sanford Health CEO Bill Gassen to its board of directors Dec. 7.

  • Highmark Health appointed Bruce Meyer, MD, to serve as executive vice president and Western Pennsylvania market president, effective Dec. 5.

  • BCBS North Dakota promoted Megan Houn to vice president of government affairs and public policy Dec. 5.

  • L.A. Care Health Plan named Sameer Amin, MD, as its next chief medical officer, effective Dec. 5.

  • Friday Health Plans named Beth Bierbower as CEO, effective Dec. 2. She was previously president of Humana's group and specialty benefits segment.

  • ConnectiCare President Karen Moran left the company to become president of Humana Military, the Hartford Business Journal reported Dec. 2.

  • Independence Blue Cross promoted Sushma Akunuru to senior vice president of business technology services and Kortney Cruz to senior vice president of government markets Dec. 2.

  • Oscar Health CFO Scott Blackley became the company's chief transformation officer Dec. 1. Former CFO, Sid Sankaran, will temporarily fill the role again as the company searches for a permanent fit.
