Centene shuffles executive lineup, names new president, COO

Centene has promoted Ken Fasola to president and Jim Murray to chief operating officer as current president and COO Brent Layton plans to retire.

In a Dec. 14 news release, the St. Louis-based payer said Mr. Layton will become senior advisor to the CEO as he "transitions toward retirement." He has been with Centene since 2006.

Mr. Fasola is currently executive vice president of healthcare enterprises for Centene, and Mr. Murray is currently executive vice president and chief transformation officer. Both were previously executives at Magellan Health — Mr. Fasola was Magellan's CEO and Mr. Murray COO — and joined Centene when it acquired Magellan in January.

Dave Thomas, currently Centene's executive vice president of markets, has been promoted to CEO of markets and Medicaid, according to the release.

These appointments are effective Dec. 14, Centene said.

The payer also named Alice Chen, MD, as chief medical officer, effective Jan. 1, and Brian LeClaire, PhD, as chief information officer, effective Dec. 5.
