5 payer rebrands in the past year to know

In June 2022, Anthem officially switched its name to Elevance Health, and launched new subsidiaries under the name.

Some Elevance subsidiaries have moved to rebrand in the past year, and payers are launching new brands to encompass more than just insurance. 

Here are five more rebranding efforts from the past year to know: 

  1. Empire BlueCross BlueShield and Empire Blue Cross will rebrand as Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross in 2024.

  2. Cigna is rebranding to the Cigna Group and launching two brands under the new corporate umbrella. In February, the company said the new health benefits segment is called Cigna Healthcare and will serve its commercial, government and international members. Evernorth Health Services will house the company's pharmacy, care delivery and benefits solutions. Express Scripts, Express Scripts Pharmacy, Accredo, eviCore, MDLIVE and myMatrixx will exist under the Evernorth name.

  3. Amerigroup Maryland, an Elevance Health subsidiary, rebranded as Wellpoint Health in January.

  4. AllWays Health Partners changed its name to Mass General Brigham Health Plan, effective Jan. 1. The plan has been a part of Mass General Brigham Health since 2012.
     
  5. UnitedHealthcare affiliate Bind changed its name to Surest, with the full rollout completed by Jan. 1. Bind was founded in 2016 and received investment backing from UnitedHealthcare, which also shares its provider networks and data analytics with the Minneapolis-based company.
