Independence Blue Cross has offered buyouts to some employees, the company said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
The company did not say how many employees were given voluntary separation offers.
“This program empowers eligible associates to make informed decisions about their next chapter — whether that means retirement or a new direction — while creating space to invest in areas that will define our future,” Independence Blue Cross said.
The buyout offers do not include employees at AmeriHealth Caritas, the Medicaid managed care provider Independence Blue Cross operates with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the company told Becker’s. Employees at Tandigm Health, an affiliated population health management company, are also not affected.
In 2024, the company laid off around 3% of its 4,600 employees, including eight executives.
Independence Health Group, the parent company of Independence Blue Cross, reported a net loss of $239 million in 2024.
