“In response to rapid changes in market conditions and industry dynamics, we are undertaking a careful redesign of our organization,” a spokesperson for Independence Health Group told Becker’s. “To effectively address the evolving needs of our customers and recent market trends, we are transforming our organizational structure to better position us for the future. The trends and realities in the healthcare marketplace that Independence and all insurers and providers face today require us to change and adapt.”

The company’s restructuring includes the departure of eight executives, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported Oct. 30.

The layoffs affect Independence and two subsidiaries, AmeriHealth and Tandigm Health. Impacted employees will be offered severance and other benefits.

“As we move forward in our journey as a company, we remain committed to supporting all our associates so that we can continue delivering on our promise of access to high-quality healthcare for our members and exceptional service for our customers,” the spokesperson said.

Many health insurers have cut jobs this year nationwide, including UnitedHealth, Aetna, Elevance and Kaiser Permanente. Some insurers have pointed to rising medical costs as the reason to reduce headcounts, while others have laid off employees following specific events such as Medicaid redeterminations.
