Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is transitioning some employees from partially to fully remote work as reports of shuttered offices mount.
Throughout the spring, local outlets reported closures in Quincy, Ill., and Danville, Ill. CBS central Illinois affiliate WCIA reported May 19 that the company’s Mattoon, Ill., office will also close.
“We continuously evaluate our workforce and business operations to ensure that we are effective and productive as we meet the challenges of an evolving healthcare industry,” a BCBS Illinois spokesperson said in response to Becker’s inquiries. “We are consolidating our physical footprint.”
They declined to confirm specific office closures and did not address how many employees would be affected or whether layoffs would take place.
A 2021 company news release for the Mattoon service center said the office had capacity for more than 300 employees.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
