AmeriHealth Caritas is closing its specialty pharmacy in Orlando, Fla., leading to the elimination of 61 positions.
The facility, PerformSpecialty, will shut down at the end of this year, according to regulatory documents filed with the state Oct. 29. Layoffs will also begin then and continue in phases through April 7.
“We are committed to supporting impacted associates through this transition with severance benefits, continued health coverage, and career resources,” a spokesperson for AmeriHealth Caritas told Becker’s. “Through the end of the year, PerformSpecialty’s current processes remain in place, and all contractual obligations will continue to be fulfilled to help maintain the same high-quality experience for members and providers.”
PerformSpecialty is a full-service specialty pharmacy and subsidiary of PerformRx, AmeriHealth’s in-house pharmacy benefit manager. It dispenses specialty medications and provides care coordination for patients on complex drug therapies.
The closure is part of a broader wind-down of PerformRx, which AmeriHealth announced in February after what it called a multiyear review of its pharmacy operations. The insurer is transitioning its pharmacy benefit management to Optum Rx in 2027.
AmeriHealth, part of Independence Health Group, is one of the largest Medicaid managed care companies and has around 5 million members across 13 states and Washington, D.C.
