Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois is closing its Quincy and Danville offices, according to local reports.
Some employees will move from a partially remote to a fully remote work schedule. The changes stem from “ongoing efforts to support the growing needs” of the business, a BCBS Illinois statement shared with Becker’s April 27 said.
“We continuously evaluate our workforce and business operations to ensure that we are effective and productive as we meet the challenges of an evolving healthcare industry,” the BCBS Illinois statement said. “We are consolidating our physical footprint.”
BCBS Illinois did not confirm the number of employees affected by the closures. At its peak in 2015, the Quincy office housed more than 800 employees, Muddy River News reported. The headcount has since fallen, and April 24 was the office’s final day, the news outlet said.
WCIA reported the Danville office will close in June, with most employees expected to work remotely, as well.
