From new headquarters in Manhattan to a further embrace of remote work, these are six recent office moves made by payers:

CareFirst BCBS leases 80K-square-foot building in suburban Baltimore
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield has leased 80,000 square feet of office space in Columbia, Md., as part of the nonprofit payer's regional expansion strategy. Move in will happen in 2024.

Humana donating 130K-square-foot office building to U of Louisville
Humana said June 13 it is donating an eight-story office building in downtown Louisville, Ky., to the University of Louisville. The 130,000-square-foot building will be used by the university's Health Equity Innovation Hub — a collaborative center with Humana focused on research, talent development, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Why Centene quietly bought the St. Louis Ritz-Carlton
Centene quietly bought the St. Louis Ritz-Carlton luxury hotel for $98 million in 2018, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported June 11. The purchase was part of a larger, previously planned $770 million Centene campus that would help accommodate new employees for training. The payer is now reevaluating the purchase and other "non-core assets."

Centene shedding 200K square feet of St. Louis office space
Centene plans to terminate its leases for nearly 200,000 square feet of office space in St. Louis or surrounding suburbs, the St. Louis Business Journal reported May 31. The company said it is offering full remote working options and flexible working arrangements for all employees.

How Cigna is encouraging hybrid work at Connecticut headquarters
Cigna said April 15 that employees at its Bloomfield, Conn., headquarters are no longer facing a mandatory number of days in the workplace, though it does still encourage coming in person to the office when needed.
