Sentara Health Plans will operate community care centers in Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina with the aim of improving care for the uninsured and Medicaid recipients in underresourced communities. 

Some payers expanded this year to reach half of the U.S. population, while others were forced out of business in some states altogether. Here are seven recent payer moves to enter or exit markets:

Memorial Hermann Health System says Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas owes it over $3 million in claims payments, according to federal court documents filed May 5.

A contract dispute between Raleigh, N.C.-based WakeMed Health and Hospitals and UnitedHealthcare could leave 20,000 patients out-of-network if an agreement is not reached before June 1, according to a May 5 North Carolina Public Radio report. 

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is expanding its mental health provider network to include specialists who focus on obsessive-compulsive disorder, serious mental illness, trauma and substance use disorders.
