SCAN Health Plan and Costco shared Oct. 1 that their co-branded Medicare Advantage plans will go live in California and Nevada in 2027.

The HMO will be available in 17 California counties and two Nevada counties on Jan. 1, a SCAN news release said. This is Costco’s first time offering MA.

“Entering Medicare Advantage is a natural extension of our commitment to delivering quality and value for our members,” Richard Stephens, Costco’s senior vice president of pharmacy, said.

The plans do not include Costco memberships, but non-Costco plan members can use over-the-counter benefits and get hearing aids and eyewear elsewhere.

Depending on the service area, some plan details include $0 monthly premiums, $0 copays for most primary care visits, up to a $125 quarterly allowance for eligible over-the-counter items, a $300 vision allowance, a $400 hearing aid allowance, transportation benefits, $0 preventive dental care and low-cost prescriptions through the preferred pharmacy network.

The MA insurer and retailer first announced their intent to launch insurance products together in August. The partnership builds on existing collaboration between SCAN and Costco. SCAN’s Health Action Rewards Program, also included under the new plans, allows members to earn up to $130 for completing certain health-oriented activities. Members can redeem rewards at Costco, among other participating retailers.

Since the Costco announcement, SCAN also shared co-branded plan partnerships with Walmart and The Springs Living, an independent-living, assisted-living and memory care provider for older adults.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
