Humana in the headlines: 5 recent stories

From selling a majority of its stake in Kindred at Home to a favorable ruling in a court case against Celgene, here are five recent headlines about Louisville, Ky.-based Humana:

1. Humana said April 21 it is selling a 60 percent stake in its Kindred at Home hospice and personal care business to the private equity firm Clayton, Dubilier & Rice. The deal is worth $2.8 billion. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2022.

2. Humana released its first quarter 2022 earning report April 27. Revenue in the first quarter was nearly $24 billion compared to nearly $20.7 billion in 2021, a 16 percent increase.

3. A federal court in New Jersey ruled April 27 that Humana's lawsuit against Celgene can move forward, but must prove its claims that the drugmaker engaged in conduct that led to artificially high prices. 

4. Humana named Sarah Moyer, MD, chief medical officer for its Kentucky Medicaid business May 3. Dr. Moyer has served as director and chief health strategist of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness since 2017. She will start her role with the payer July 5.   

5. Humana was one of 7 payers recognized April 19 with Best Employers Award for Excellence in Health and Well-being by the Business Group on Health.
