How payers' ACOs fared in 2022

Humana's ACO saved over $25 million for the Medicare program in 2022. 

According to CMS data published Oct. 23, the Global and Professional Direct Contracting model saved the program more than $300 million in net savings in 2022. 

The Medicare Global and Professional Direct Contracting model transitioned to ACO REACH at the beginning of 2023. 

Several care organizations owned by payers participated in the 2022 model, and more joined in 2023. 

Here's how payers' ACOs fared in 2022: 

Aetna

  • Net savings: $307,567 
  • Net savings rate: 2.3% 
  • Total beneficiaries: 388 

Caremount (Optum) 

  • Net savings: $11 million 
  • Net savings rate: 2.7% 
  • Total beneficiaries: 27,825 

CenterWell (Humana) 

  • Net savings: $2.1 million 
  • Net savings rate: 5.1% 
  • Total beneficiaries 2,916 

Clover Health 

  • Net savings: -$51.7 million 
  • Net savings rate -2.1% 
  • Total beneficiaries: 177,459 

Humana

  • Net savings: $25.6 million 
  • Net savings rate: 3.7% 
  • Total beneficiaries: 59,651 

Park Nicollet (HealthPartners) 

  • Net savings: -$893,735
  • Net savings rate: -0.2%
  • Total beneficiaries: 36,323
