BCBS, Baylor Scott & White Health ink 4-year agreement

Richardson-based Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health extended their relationship through a four-year contract.

BCBSTX customers enrolled in BlueChoice preferred provider organization, Blue Essentials health maintenance organization and Blue Premier HMO health plans will continue to receive in-network care from Baylor Scott & White providers. Limited in-network access for Blue Advantage HMO policyholders will be sustained at five of Baylor Scott & White's hospitals.

Two provisions were added to the payer-provider contract. Beginning in 2017, Baylor Scott & White will network with STAR Kids Health Plan — offered by BCBSTX — for children with special healthcare needs, and the insurer will commit to stronger integration with Baylor Scott & White's ACO.

"This agreement confirms and strengthens the longstanding relationship between these two organizations, and stresses our commitment to provide our members access to quality, cost-effective healthcare," Jack Towsley, divisional senior vice president of healthcare delivery at BCBSTX, said in a prepared statement. "As stewards of our members' healthcare coverage dollars, this is a responsibility we take very seriously."
