The American Hospital Association has launched a website to help hospitals and health systems prepare for electronic prior authorization requirements that take effect Jan. 1, 2027.
Major provisions of CMS’ 2024 Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule begin on that date. The AHA said in an Oct. 15 post announcing the site that hospitals and health systems should start preparing now for significant changes to prior authorization workflows, payer interactions and information exchange.
The new site gathers AHA news, resources, advocacy materials, blogs, podcasts and webinars on prior authorization. It includes both general guidance and material tied to the final rule’s deadline. Among the resources is a September webinar on preparing for electronic prior authorization, which featured CMS policy insights and Epic workflow perspectives. The AHA said it will add new resources and guidance as they become available.
“While electronic prior authorization will not eliminate prior authorization requirements, it is expected to accelerate the exchange of information between providers and payers and reduce reliance on manual processes,” the AHA said on the new website.
