Entering the summer, Centene announced some workforce and leadership shifts, as well as a major Medicaid expansion exit.

Here are four recent Centene updates:

1. Centene’s Ambetter is departing Arkansas’ Medicaid expansion program, Arkansas Health and Opportunity for Me, in 2027 due to “current funding challenges,” the company told Becker’s. The Arkansas Department of Human Services said about 70,000 beneficiaries are enrolled in Centene plans at the moment.

2. Centene tapped Lauren Tyler for its board of directors, effective June 19. She is serving on the audit and the compensation and talent committees. Ms. Tyler has over two decades of experience at JPMorgan Chase.

3. Centene offered a voluntary separation program to staffers, the company confirmed June 15. Centene did not disclose how many employees received the offers, but a spokesperson said most employees are eligible to apply. The company has about 61,000 personnel. As of July 13, the company did not have an update on the program’s status.

4. Centene’s Meridian of Illinois appointed Henish Bhansali, MD, as chief medical officer for the managed care organization. He most recently taught at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Public Health and is a member of HHS’ Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
