Centene’s Ambetter is exiting Arkansas’ Medicaid expansion program, Arkansas Health and Opportunity for Me, in 2027.
In a July 6 statement to Becker’s, the company attributed the decision to “current funding challenges.” Arkansas Health & Wellness — Centene’s managed care subsidiary in the state — will still continue its marketplace, Medicare, employer and Arkansas Total Care Medicaid offerings. Centene participated in Arkansas’ Medicaid expansion program for 13 years.
The Arkansas Department of Human Services said roughly 70,000 beneficiaries are currently enrolled in Centene plans. According to the state, ARHOME must have multiple plans, and, with the exit, three will remain next year. Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield is also an ARHOME carrier.
Centene said members will receive information on how to enroll in a new plan, and the insurer will support its current ARHOME population through the end of the year.
“We are working closely with state partners to help ensure a smooth transition and continuity of care for our Ambetter ARHOME membership,” a Centene spokesperson said.
