7 payers entering new markets

These are seven health plans expanding or launching products in new markets that Becker's has reported since Nov. 16:

  1. Premera Blue Cross HMO, a subsidiary of Premera, said Dec. 13 it is launching in three Washington counties in 2023, with plans for further expansion.

  2. Enthea, a startup health plan, said Dec. 6 it is launching the nation's first employee benefit for psychedelic-assisted therapy in dozens of markets next year, starting in New York City, the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, Texas.

  3. Clever Care Health Plan, a Medicare Advantage company, said Nov. 26 it has partnered with Allied Pacific IPA, Alpha Care Medical Group, and Accountable Health Care IPA to provide care access across the greater Southern California area.

  4. Springfield Clinic in Illinois rolled out its own health plan in late November called "Advantage Plan," which is in-network with all 650 Springfield Clinic providers, including providers in-network with HealthLink, an Elevance Health subsidiary.

  5. Angle Health, a startup insurer founded in 2019, said Nov. 17 it will sell its small business health plans in Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri and South Carolina next year. 

  6. Humana's primary care organization, CenterWell, said Nov. 16 it will open clinics in Indiana, Mississippi and Virginia in 2023. CenterWell is rapidly expanding and is slated to open 30 to 50 new clinics a year through 2025.

  7. Indiana University Health Plans in Indianapolis said Nov. 16 it is offering IU Health Plans Select in 2023, a new plan available to nearly 60,000 federal employees.
