Molina Healthcare CEO Joseph Zubretsky will become the longest-tenured chief executive among big payers when Cigna’s David Cordani retires on July 1.
Mr. Zubretsky narrowly edges out Elevance’s Gail Boudreaux for the distinction. Mr. Zubretsky assumed his role on Nov. 6, 2017 — just 20 days before Ms. Boudreaux took her post.
Here are the CEO tenures at seven of the nation’s largest payers:
1. Cigna: David Cordani. CEO since June 2009.
*Retiring July 1 and will be succeeded by president and COO Brian Evanko.
2. Molina Healthcare: Joseph Zubretsky. CEO since November 2017.
3. Elevance: Gail Boudreaux. CEO since November 2017.
4. Centene: Sarah London. CEO since March 2022.
5. Humana: James Rechtin. CEO since July 2024.
6. CVS Health (Aetna): David Joyner. CEO since October 2024.
7. UnitedHealth Group: Stephen Hemsley. CEO since May 2025 (previously served as CEO from 2006 to 2017).
