Molina's new CEO is former Aetna CFO Joseph Zubretsky: 4 things to know

Molina Healthcare, a Long Beach, Calif.-based health insurer, tapped former Aetna executive Joseph Zubretsky as president and CEO, effective Nov. 6.

Here are four things to know.

1. Mr. Zubretsky joins Molina from Worcester, Mass.-based The Hanover Insurance Group, where he served as president and CEO.

2. Mr. Zubretsky succeeds Molina's interim CEO, Joseph White. Mr. White intermittently helmed the organization as CEO and CFO after poor financial performance led Molina's board of directors to fire longtime CEO J. Mario Molina, MD, and his brother John Molina, the company's CFO, in May. Mr. White will remain Molina's CFO following the transition.

3. Molina's new CEO has more than 35 years of insurance and financial services experience. Mr. Zubretsky served nearly nine years at Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna, most recently as CEO of Healthagen Holdings, the health insurer's health IT subsidiary. Before that, he was senior executive vice president of Aetna's national businesses from 2013 to 2014, and the payer's CFO from 2007 to 2013.

4. A University of Hartford (Conn.) graduate in business administration, Mr. Zubretsky began his career at Coopers & Lybrand, now London-based PricewaterhouseCoopers.
