Dr. Decker spent nearly 23 years at Mayo Clinic. During that time he worked as an emergency medicine physician and the founding chair and professor of emergency medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, where he established and directed the emergency medicine residency training program.
He served as the chair of emergency medicine for eight years in Rochester and three years in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was named CEO of Phoenix-based Mayo Clinic Arizona in 2011 and Mayo Clinic’s chief medical information officer in 2017.
Dr. Decker joined UnitedHealth Group’s Optum arm in January 2019 to serve as a senior executive. That March he was named CEO of Optum Health. He held that role until July 2023, when he was named UnitedHealth Group’s chief physician of value-based care. In his new role, he will focus on strengthening value-based care capabilities and innovative clinical solutions across UnitedHealth Group.
