Former Optum Health CEO transitioning to UnitedHealth Group chief physician role

Wyatt Decker, MD, who has served as Optum Health's CEO since 2019, is transitioning to the role of chief physician at UnitedHealth Group.

Dr. Decker announced the move in a July 19 LinkedIn post. In his new role, he will focus on strengthening value-based care capabilities and innovative clinical solutions across UnitedHealth Group. He said he will also work across the healthcare industry to "advocate for comprehensive, equitable care that addresses a person’s whole health."

"We have an incredible opportunity to build upon and expand our distinctive care model that has helped millions of people — especially those with multiple chronic conditions or complex care needs — live healthier lives," he said in the post.

Amar Desai, MD, has been tapped to replace Dr. Decker as Optum Health CEO.
