WPS Health Solutions is laying off 313 employees in Wisconsin due to competitive pressures and federal contract losses.

A federal jury has ordered Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan to pay nearly $13 million in damages to a former employee who said she was wrongfully terminated for refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Independence Blue Cross is laying off about 130 employees, or 3% of its total workforce of 4,600.

Elevance Health is laying off 123 employees in Southern California, according to regulatory documents filed with the state Oct. 14.

Blue Shield of California will lay off 61 employees, according to WARN notices filed Oct. 2. 

CVS Health will lay off 416 employees at Aetna's headquarters in Hartford, Conn. 

Four insurers or their subsidiaries are among the top 100 companies in the U.S. for jobs  that consist of some remote work and some in-office work, according to FlexJobs.

Elevance Health was ranked no. 3 on Fortune's list of the "Best Large Workplaces in Healthcare." 

Several insurers landed on Forbes' annual ranking of the "Best Employers by State."
