The Florida Blue parent company will close DCMG clinics in Clearwater, Winter Haven, Largo and St. Petersburg, Fla. by the end of August. According to regulatory documents filed with the state, 245 employees will be terminated as a result of the closures, including physicians, physician assistants, registered nurses and medical assistants. The layoffs will take place from Sept. 3 to Dec. 21.
“The decision to close was driven by the strategy of our parent company, GuideWell, whose core business focuses on delivering the most seamless, high-quality and affordable comprehensive primary care for its Florida Blue health plan members in their group and individual business,” DCMG wrote on its website. “These primary care services are provided through Florida Blue | Sanitas Medical Centers.”
In September, GuideWell is opening four new Florida Blue | Sanitas Medical Centers at or near the locations of the closing DCMG clinics, which will serve Florida Blue commercial members.
Sanitas and Florida Blue have collaborated on primary care clinics since 2015. There are more than 50 Sanitas centers currently located across Florida.
