Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is the latest payer cutting back on office space, planning to vacate its headquarters in Eagan, Minn., the StarTribune reported March 24.
A spokesperson for the payer told the newspaper its office space "experienced low utilization and occupation" since switching to a hybrid work model.
The insurer previously sold two office buildings behind its 443,000-square-foot headquarters. BCBS Minnesota does not own the building housing its headquarters, which it sold to a real estate investment company in 2012.
UnitedHealth Group also intends to vacate its 20-acre corporate headquarters in Minnetonka, Minn. In October 2022, the company had at least 780,000 square feet of office space up for lease in Minnesota.
