BCBS Minnesota lays off 80 employees

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota laid off around 80 employees Feb. 9, the Star Tribune reported Feb. 13.

In a statement to the newspaper, a spokesperson said the layoffs were necessary to "place the company in the best position to deliver on our strategic priorities." Most of the layoffs were in the operations division, the spokesperson said.

BCBS Minnesota plans to add nearly 300 in-house employees to run its Medicaid contracts after ending a contract with Elevance Health's Amerigroup to manage the service. The company has about 3,000 employees in total.
