Cigna is launching an “E-Treatment” option to allow members to get urgent care without any direct video or phone interaction with a provider.

According to a Sept. 12 news release, the service is powered by Bright.md, which Cigna acquired in 2023. The asynchronous telehealth platform became part of MDLive, which Cigna purchased in 2021.

The E-Treatment option will be available to members in Cigna’s individual and employer-sponsored plans in most states. Members complete a virtual clinical interview. Physicians then review the information and share a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Customers typically receive a diagnosis within one hour, according to the news release. The service is designed to treat common, low-risk conditions such as allergies, infections and some respiratory illnesses.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 17–19 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
