Blue Shield of California has partnered with Gemini Health to launch “Price Check My Rx,” a new tool that sends mobile alerts to prompt members to review drug prices and compare lower-cost alternatives through the insurer’s app.
Blue Shield says it is the first health plan in the U.S. to offer real-time prescription cost notifications directly to members when their physician initiates an e-prescription order. Clinicians in Blue Shield’s network receive the same cost and alternative information at the point of prescribing, allowing them to discuss options with patients in real time, according to an Aug. 6 news release.
The insurer has rolled out several new member tools recently, including partnering with booking platform Zocdoc to allow members to schedule appointments directly on the health plan’s online portal, and a new platform to combine members’ health records in one place.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
