UnitedHealthcare’s AI assistant Avery is now available to 21 million commercial, Medicare and Medicaid members, according to an Oct. 8 news release shared with Becker’s.

Avery first launched in March to about 6.5 million members with employer-sponsored plans and 160,000 Medicare Advantage members.

Members can use the virtual assistant in the UHC app to ask about benefits, costs, claims and in-network providers, and it can also call physician offices to book appointments on a member’s behalf.

According to the insurer, Avery resolves about 90% of member interactions without a human involved, with the remaining 10% transferred to customer service.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
