UnitedHealth Group in the headlines: 6 updates

From the first wave of UnitedHealthcare's prior authorization cuts beginning, to a federal appellate partially reviving a reprocessing case, here are six updates on UnitedHealth Group Becker's reported since since Aug. 21: 

1. UnitedHealthcare named Toyosi Okurounmu, MD, as national chief medical officer and vice president of medical leadership and clinical performance for its community and state division, which provides managed Medicaid services across 30 states.

2. The first wave of UnitedHealthcare's prior authorization cuts began Sept. 1.

3. Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health alleged UnitedHealthcare breached its confidentiality agreement with the system in the midst of contract negotiations. UnitedHealth hit back, alleging the health system "coordinated a media effort to put pressure" on the insurance giant. 

4. UnitedHealth Group's board of directors authorized to pay a cash dividend of $1.88 per share on Sept. 19 to all shareholders of record as of Sept. 11.

5. A federal appellate court ruled that some beneficiaries of UnitedHealth Group's behavioral health unit may be entitled to have their claims reprocessed.

6. UnitedHealth Group named Tammi Morton vice president and chief security officer.
