Thirty-one percent of enrollees were new to the marketplace and 43 percent returned to choose a plan. Additionally, 83 percent of individuals enrolling in 2017 coverage received subsidies to offset the cost of premiums.

CMS said the majority (71 percent) of enrollees reported household incomes between 100 percent and 250 percent of the federal poverty level. Enrollees between the ages of 0 to 34 and 35 to 54 represented the largest portion of consumers signing up for insurance, at 36 percent and 37 percent, respectively.
