Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara Health and Aetna have expanded their partnership to provide Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members with access to Sentara’s full network of hospitals, providers and care sites across Virginia.
The agreement, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, will expand access for members of Aetna Medicare Advantage and Aetna Better Health of Virginia Medicaid plans in the Hampton Roads, Southwest Virginia and Northern Virginia regions, according to an Oct. 29 news release from Sentara.
Sentara is already in-network for Aetna commercial health plan members.
“We recognize the importance of working collaboratively with payers to ensure patients can access the services they need,” Rachelle Capps, vice president for managed care contracting at Sentara, said. “This agreement represents an important step in supporting access and filling insurance coverage gaps in the region for high-quality care for individuals and families.”
Corey Pleasants, CEO of Aetna Better Health of Virginia, said the expanded partnership will give members greater choice in healthcare providers and support a more connected care experience across the state.
At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
