Molina Healthcare in the news: 5 recent stories 

From joining the S&P 500 to facing a lawsuit over its 401(k) plan, here are five recent headlines about the Long Beach, Calif., managed care organization: 

1. Molina closed its acquisition of Texas Medicaid contracts from Cigna, adding about 50,000 new members. 

2. Molina Healthcare joined the S&P 500 March 2. It now serves more than 5.2 million members, a 29 percent increase from 2020. 

3. Molina Healthcare of California said March 14 it is partnering with Seattle-based WEconnect Health Management to expand mobile substance use recovery support to Medi-Cal beneficiaries. The mobile app offers a supportive environment for recovery by delivering key resources to a patient's phone.

4. A group of former Molina employees sued Molina, alleging violations of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. The complaint stems from flexPATH Index target date funds. The former employees said the funds had never been used in an existing 401(k) and unperformed compared with established target date funds.

5. Molina Healthcare of Iowa named Tim Gutshall, MD, chief medical officer April 25. Dr. Gutshall has practiced medicine in Iowa for 26 years as a family and emergency medicine physician.
