Molina expands mobile substance use recovery support to Medi-Cal members

Molina Healthcare of California is partnering with Seattle-based WEconnect Health Management to expand mobile substance use recovery support to Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

The mobile app offers a supportive environment for recovery by delivering key resources to a patient's phone, according to a March 14 press release.

WEconnect will coordinate those resources and send daily reminders, medical appointment alerts and rewards milestones with incentives in the form of gift cards to major stores. Patients will also have access to mobile recovery meetings and peer recovery support services.

"The pandemic has exacerbated mental health and substance misuse for millions of Americans," WEconnect CEO and co-founder Daniela Luzi Tudor said. "Unfortunately, these issues are often missed due to the disconnect between the medical and recovery community. But working together, Molina and WEconnect are taking a new approach to connecting Californians on recovery journeys with proven mobile solutions in a way that works best for them."

More than 750,000 people have participated in WEconnect mobile recovery services to date, and users have reported substance use reductions of up to 75 percent.
