Meet Bright Health's executive leadership team

Former UnitedHealthcare CEO Robert Sheehy founded Bloomington, Minn.-based health insurance startup Bright Health Group in 2016. The company's BrightHealthCare insurance line had a total enrollment of 970,000 as of June 30.  

Here are the six officials who make up Bright Health's executive leadership team, according to its website:

G. Mike Mikan, vice chairman, president and CEO: Mr. Mikan has been Bright Health's CEO since April 2020, succeeding Mr. Sheeh. Prior to joining the company, he was the chairman and CEO of Shot-Rock Capital, a Minneapolis-based private investment firm.

Cathy Smith, chief financial and administrative officer: Ms. Smith oversees Bright Health's financial functions as well as legal, human resources, marketing, real estate, corporate development, strategy, procurement and actuarial departments. She previously served as Target's executive vice president and CFO. 

Michael Carson, Bright Healthcare CEO: Mr. Carson was named Bright Healthcare CEO in May. He is tasked with driving profitable and sustainable growth for the insurance line. He previously served as CEO of CareAbout, a value-based primary and multispecialty care startup. 

Jeff Cook, NeueHealth CEO: Mr. Cook was named CEO of NeueHealth, Bright Health's value-based line in May. He's tasked with growing and developing the company's integrated systems of care. He previously served as national vice president of CVS Health HUBs.

Jon Porter, DocSquad CEO and chief product officer: Mr. Porter joined Bright Health as chief product officer in August 2019. He now also oversees DocSquad, Bright Health's telehealth platform. Before joining Bright Health, he served as chief product officer for Athenahealth. 

Brian Gambs, chief technology officer: Mr. Gambs is responsible for Bright Health's technology strategy and execution. He previously served as vice president of engineering and principal architect at Athenahealth.
