Bright HealthCare, NeueHealth name new CEOs

Bloomington, Minn.-based Bright Health Group has named Michael Carson as CEO of Bright HealthCare and Jeff Cook as CEO of the value-based line NeueHealth. The two will both start in June and report to CEO Mike Mikan.

Mr. Carson will focus on core operations, consumer products, network solutions and profitable, sustainable growth. Most recently, Mr. Carson served as CEO of CareAbout, a value-based primary and multispecialty care startup, and as president and CEO of Canton, Mass.-based Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, a nonprofit health services company. He has also held leadership positions at Anthem, AmeriGroup, Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and ConcertoHealth, according to a May 17 news release.

Mr. Cook will lead NeueHealth, Bright Health's personalized care delivery business, and continue to grow and develop the company's integrated systems of care. Previously, Mr. Cook served as national vice president of CVS Health HUBs. Prior to that, he served as the south central regional president of CVS Health/Aetna and held various leadership positions at Ascension Health and UnitedHealthcare.

Sam Srivastava, current CEO of NeueHealth, will serve as a strategic adviser through the end of May. Jay Matushak, current interim CEO of Bright HealthCare, will return to his previous role as CFO while taking on an expanded set of responsibilities.

"Michael and Jeff both bring strong expertise in their respective domains, and most importantly, have a passion for and expertise in fully aligned, value-based care," Mr. Mikan said. "As we embark on this next phase of Bright Health Group's journey, we are excited to have these two phenomenal leaders join our already deep bench of talent within Bright HealthCare and NeueHealth."
