CMS awarded its Medicare Advantage independent review entity contract to C2C Innovative Solutions, according to a March 31 CMS letter published by the AMA.

C2C secured the contract Feb. 26. Effective May 1, C2C will review appeals of adverse reconsiderations, as well as dismissals of appeals.

There will be a brief overlap when Maximus and C2C are both providing decisions, according to the letter. Health plans have until April 17 to complete the Medicare Part C Reconsiderations Key Contact Form for C2C.

Maximus serves as the current IRE and will continue addressing requests through the end of April. In 2022, the contractor landed a $6.6 billion contract to run Medicare and ACA customer service centers. Maximus is also among the 10 health technology companies that recently pledged more than $600 million to assist with Medicaid work requirements.

Becker’s contacted CMS and will update this story if more information becomes available.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Fall Payer Issues Roundtable, taking place November 2–3 in Chicago, payer executives and healthcare leaders will come together to discuss value-based care, regulatory changes, cost management strategies and innovations shaping the future of payer-provider collaboration.
