Four in 5 respondents in a Kaiser Family Foundation survey said they are very or somewhat worried that Medicare will not be able to provide the same level of benefits in the future.
Similar numbers had a very favorable or somewhat favorable opinion of the program.
Most of the poll respondents, 73 percent, said changes will need to be made to the Medicare program to keep it sustainable for the future. Adults under 65 were more likely than older adults to say changes to Medicare are necessary.
The survey was conducted from March 14 to 23 and included 1,271 U.S. adults. The margin of error is 3 percent.
