La. Medicaid program renamed 'Healthy Louisiana'

Louisiana's Medicaid program has a new name. Formerly "Bayou Health," it is now called "Health Louisiana," as of May 2, according to Nola.com.

A new website has been developed for Healthy Louisiana, and the name will be printed on all new materials distributed as part of the state's Medicaid expansion.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) described Healthy Louisiana as a key policy initiative of his administration, and said he is prepared to launch a statewide effort to better educate residents about the newly expanded program.

"When we talk about positive impact, we don't just mean for healthcare, we mean for the economy and the budget," Gov. Edwards said, citing the $180 million savings his administration has projected, according to the report. "We want to make sure the public gets all the information they need."

Gov. Edwards signed Medicaid expansion on his first day as governor. It will come into effect July 1.
