How payers' executive compensation stacks up with other healthcare giants

Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, PhD, was the highest-paid executive out of the 11 healthcare firms in the top 50 companies on the 2023 Fortune 500 rankings. 

Five payer companies — UnitedHealth Group, CVS Health, Cigna, Centene and Humana — are also among the top firms. Their execs were some of the highest paid among healthcare firms. 

Here's how payer execs pay compared to leaders in pharmaceutical and medical supply companies in 2022, according to SEC filings:
