Pittsburghbased Highmark Health is looking to purchase the other half of Medicaid managed care insurer Gateway Health, pending state approval.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the acquisition would add 355,000 members to Highmark Health's over 6 million-strong membership base.
While Highmark Health has owned half of Gateway Health since its 1992 founding, it would acquire the other half from Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health. Terms have not been disclosed.
Should the acquisition receive state approval, Gateway Health would become a Highmark Health subsidiary as it continues to offer Medicare and Medicaid plans to members.
