Florida is requesting $1.1 billion in American Rescue Plan funding to support at-home Medicaid services.
The funding will primarily support disabled and elderly recipients who need in-home care, Valerie Breen, executive director of the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, told News4Jax.
Of the funds, about $300 million will reduce program waitlists, and much more will go toward staffing shortages.
State lawmakers want to ensure that the acceptance of federal funds, if approved, does not lead to Medicaid expansion, News4Jax reports. However, there is contention between lawmakers and healthcare companies that are pushing for the funding increase to be permanent.
