Elevance Health in the headlines: 8 recent developments

From its CEO becoming the first woman elected to chair the Business Council, to the payer being named among the nation's best large employers, here are eight updates about Elevance Health Becker's has reported since Jan. 31:

1. Elevance was ranked the fourth-best health insurance company in 2023 by insure.com.

2. Elevance was named the 359th-best large employer in the U.S. by Forbes. 

3. BCBS Louisiana will use funds from its acquisition by Elevance Health to establish a $3 billion foundation to address health equity and will disburse payments to some members. 

4. Elevance closed on its acquisition of specialty pharmacy BioPlus on Feb. 15.

5. Elevance had the third-highest profit in 2022 among big payers at $6 billion.

6. Elevance had the fourth-highest revenue among big payers in 2022 at $156 billion.

7. Elevance Health CEO Gail Boudreaux was elected to chair the Business Council, becoming the first woman to lead the association of top CEOs in its 90-year history.

8. A group of senators is seeking answers from Elevance and other large payers over "ghost networks" that make it difficult for patients to find in-network mental healthcare providers.
