Elevance Health in the headlines: 8 recent updates

Elevance Health has added executives and published new research findings in recent weeks. 

Here are eight updates about the Indianapolis-based payer Becker's has reported since May 1. 

  1. Elevance Health named Empire BlueCross BlueShield's president and CEO, Alan Murray, as its new chief business development officer for provider services.

  2. Amerigroup Tennessee, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elevance Health, named Natalie Cooper president. Most recently, Ms. Cooper was regional vice president at Eleveance Health. 

  3. Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health said it will go out of network with Elevance Health Medicaid managed care plans on July 1 if the sides are unable to reach a new agreement.

  4. New research from Elevance Health demonstrates how initiatives from health insurers such as obstetric consultants and value-based incentive programs can lead to improved maternal outcomes for some of the nation's most at-risk populations. Tiffany Inglis, MD, medical director of clinical programming and population health at Elevance Health, sat down with Becker's to discuss the study's results. 

  5. Elevance Health added 318,000 Medicaid members in the first quarter of 2023. 

  6. Elevance Health had the largest commercial member base in the first quarter of 2023. 

  7. Payers have been required to post pricing information online for covered items and services since July, but several limitations exist to providing the true cost of care to patients, according to researchers at Elevance Health.

  8. Adrienne McFadden, MD, chief medical officer of Medicaid at Elevance Health, was one of six new members appointed to the Medicaid and CHIP Payment and Access Commission.
