Colorado urges providers to continue accepting Friday Health Plans

Colorado will ensure providers are paid for Friday Health Plans' members' care, the state's department of insurance said.

In a June 23 news release, Colorado Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway said the state has taken control of the company to ensure providers are paid.

"Coloradans insured through Friday are our neighbors, friends and family members. They obviously did nothing wrong in choosing Friday as their insurance company. I ask healthcare providers to continue to provide services to those neighbors, family members and friends. We have taken steps to ensure that you will get paid and we will continue to do that," Mr. Conway said.

Alamosa, Colo.-based Friday Health Plans said June 1 that it would shutter its business. Colorado said it had taken over the plan's operation on June 21, and will "do everything possible" to preserve members' coverage through the end of the year.

In Georgia, Friday Health Plans members have until July 31 to enroll in a new plan to avoid a gap in coverage. Members in North Carolina and Oklahoma have until Aug. 31 to choose a new plan through a special enrollment period.
